EECL are delighted to share the news that we have signed a contract with Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) to supply high performance RF & Microwave hardware to the Amazonia-1B Space Mission.
The data collected by the Amazonia-1B mission will be crucial in the fight against climate change, offering insights that can inform policy decisions, conservation strategies, and global climate models. Through the innovative use of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Reflectometry, the Amazonia-1B mission will accurately map the biomass and soil moisture content of this vast rainforest. Such detailed mapping is essential for monitoring the health and changes in the rainforest, providing critical data for environmental research and conservation efforts.
As part of our contribution to this exciting mission, EECL are tasked with delivering three state-of-the-art payload modules within the next 6 months fully tested and qualified.
At the Space-Comm Expo 2022, EECL signed a contract with Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) to supply flight units of the RF Front End and Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for the ESA Scout mission, also known as HydroGNSS.
Prior to this, EECL had already designed and delivered engineering models for the mission, which were sent to SSTL for qualification testing. In August 2023, EECL successfully completed the contract by delivering all nine flight units following successful environmental testing.
HydroGNSS employs a bistatic radar concept that uses GNSS-reflected signals for hydrological measurements, including soil moisture, freeze/thaw states over permafrost, above-ground biomass, and wetlands. EECL is incredibly proud to have played an integral role in this ground-breaking mission.
