A defence-sector customer approached us with a prototype X-Band radar front-end module that required significant development before it could be manufactured reliably at scale. We partnered with their engineering team to re-engineer the design, addressing several critical performance and manufacturability challenges.
The original unit suffered from low output power, an uneven passband response, and significant thermal sensitivity, with RF leakage around the module varying with temperature. Our team conducted a full design review and implemented a series of improvements, including the integration of our specialized gasket and RF absorber technologies to eliminate unpredictable leakage paths and stabilize performance across operating conditions.
Following the redesign, we produced a pilot manufacturing batch and used our in-house automated RF test systems to fully characterize the module’s performance. This process enabled us to deliver complete design and test data, ensuring the module could be produced reliably and repeatably in volume.
The final design achieved 80 W of output power and has since been successfully integrated into the customer’s larger radar system.
